Jan Brennan is a champion for equity and access in education, arts and civic engagement. In addition to being a Senior Fellow at the National Civic League, Jan is CEO of Forward LLC consulting and currently serves as the Mountain West Director for the Campus Election Engagement Project.
Jan works with K-12 schools, higher education institutions and communities to build their commitment, capacity and investment in nonpartisan civic learning and engagement and to strengthen policies and programs that amplify community voice and service. Jan also supports the use of arts in placemaking, economic vitality and neighborhood cohesion, works with nonprofits and boards to enhance organizational effectiveness, and has written extensive on education policy and civic engagement.
Jan has held senior positions with Education Commission of the States and their National Center for Learning & Civic Engagement, the City of Denver Office of Cultural Affairs/Arts & Venues Denver, and Gill Foundation’s Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado. She received her Master in Public Administration from University of Colorado Denver. Jan is a Court Appointed Special Advocate and certified in youth program evaluation and network leadership.
Outside of work, Jan plays bass guitar, gardens with her partner Michael and enjoys hiking with Chase the Dog. She serves on the Board of Spoke N Motion Dance, which integrates dancers with and without disabilities, as part of her passion to ensure the arts are accessible to all.
