The League Welcomes New Board Members and Elects New Officers

The National Civic League added four new members to its board of directors and elected a new slate of officers at its last regular meeting. The National Civic League’s board of directors is made up of 25 civic leaders from around the U.S. who guide the direction of the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.

Mayor G.T. Bynum of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Councilmember Diana Romero Campbell of Denver, CO, Angela Montez, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal, Corporate & Government Affairs Officer at MissionSquare Retirement, and Mayor Vince Williams of Union City, GA were each elected to three-year terms.

This year’s officers are:

Meet our New Board Members

G.T. Bynum
Mayor
Tulsa, Oklahoma

Sworn in as the 40th Mayor of Tulsa in 2016, Mayor G.T. Bynum is using data and innovation to bring people together to make Tulsa globally competitive. To accomplish this, Mayor Bynum is focused on fiscal responsibility, public safety, infrastructure, and equality of opportunity for all Tulsans. This approach has already yielded the successful recruitment of the two largest new employers in the history of Tulsa, while outpacing both the state and the nation in job growth.

Mayor Bynum worked closely with the Tulsa City Council to fund the sharpest increase in police hiring in Tulsa history, while simultaneously implementing one of the most comprehensive community policing programs in the United States. Under his Administration, the City opened its own municipal jail with an emphasis on innovative diversion programs while also opening the Tulsa Sobering Center, which offers treatment for those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. Mayor Bynum led Tulsa to pilot the Better Way program, which provides honest work and social service assistance for the city’s panhandler and homeless population. Read more about Mayor Bynum.


Diana Romero Campbell
Councilmember, District 4
Denver, Colorado

Councilmember Diana Romero Campbell grew up in southeast Denver and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and has spent her career working in the nonprofit sector. She and her husband raised their daughter and son who are now young adults in District 4. Diana’s career has been dedicated to ensuring that all children, youth, and families have access to the same opportunities that she and her family have enjoyed.


Angela Montez
Senior Vice President, Chief Legal, Corporate & Government Affairs Officer
MissionSquare Retirement

Angela Montez is Senior Vice President, Chief Legal, Corporate & Government Affairs Officer at MissionSquare Retirement. Prior to that, she was a special counsel working with Eversheds Sutherland’s Investment Services Practice Group where she focused her practice on retirement and investment policy and products, including ERISA and related federal tax and securities law issues and collective investment trust matters.

With more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Angela has been a trusted advisor to boards of directors and the C-suite on critical legal, governance, legislative and regulatory matters. Read more about Angela.


Vince Williams
Mayor
Union City, Georgia

In 2007, Vince R. Williams was elected to the Union City City Council. He later assumed the position of Mayor in May 2013, becoming Union City’s twentieth mayor. Initially serving as Mayor Pro-Tem, he ascended to the mayoral office following the resignation of his predecessor. In November 2013, he secured election to the office of Mayor by the voters.

From the outset of his mayoral tenure, Vince R. Williams prioritized the establishment of a robust economic tax base for Union City. His vision involved attracting professional and commercial businesses, aiming to transform the city into a financially stable and vibrant community, providing ample job opportunities for its residents.
