National Civic League: Helping Communities Since 1894

Creating inclusive, thriving communities by inspiring, supporting and recognizing equitable approaches to community decision-making.

Racial Equity Programs

National Civic League is a proud partner of The W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) project - a multi-year, national and community-based effort to engage communities, organizations and individuals from multiple sectors across the United States in racial healing and addressing present-day inequities linked to historic and contemporary beliefs in a hierarchy of human value. For more information on the TRHT, visit or

More than 550 people from across the country joined the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) for its Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) Summit in Carlsbad, California. At the summit, the foundation and a broad coalition called for a National Day of Healing on Jan. 17, 2017.

Become an All-America City

Established in 1949, the All-America City Award is given by NCL to ten communities each year in recognition of their outstanding civic accomplishments. To win, communities must demonstrate innovation, impact, inclusiveness, civic engagement and cross-sector collaboration by describing three successful efforts to address pressing local challenges. The process culminates in a three-day event where community delegations tell their stories of change to a national jury of business, nonprofit and local government experts.

Winners of the All-America City Award receive a local economic stimulus, increased community pride and collaboration and access to peers and experts around the country on using civic engagement to solve complex local issues. The awards event is a transformational experience, and many participants say it is hard to put benefits and the experience into words. Watch the All-America City Experience here to learn more about how this program can benefit your community.
