The 2022 All-America City Awards Event and Competition was co-convened with the Campaign for Grade-Level in conjunction with GLR Week, July 18-22, 2022. Communities named as finalists assembled teams of residents, nonprofits, businesses, government leaders, young people, etc. to present their efforts around the year’s theme, “Housing as a Platform to Promote Early School Success and Equitable Learning Recovery.”
The event also included workshops, as well as three terrific keynote speakers: Adrianne Todman, Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; Mayor Steve Adler, City of Austin, TX; and Sharon L. Davies, J.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, Kettering Foundation.

Workshop: The Case for Housing as a Platform: A Philanthropic Perspective
Public housing authorities and affordable housing organizations are critical partners in supporting children of economically challenged, fragile and marginalized families by meeting them ‘where they are’ with 24/7/365/multigenerational systems of services and supports. In this session, philanthropic leaders discussed this essential role of affordable housing and the importance of funders working collaboratively to address complex issues facing children, families, and communities.
