To combat a rising obesity rate, and to develop a collective impact model to increase healthy food access, the Dubuque Eats Well (DEW) coalition was formed and has since implemented several healthy food initiatives.
The Crescent Community Health Center in Dubuque identified the need for additional health services in their Community Health Needs Assessment. From the assessment, Crescent sought to expand services to lower income residents, uninsured residents, Marshallese residents and residents experiencing mental health crisis.
Dubuque was able to successfully complete the Bee Branch Creek, which now moves storm-water safely through neighborhoods that previously had been consistently devastated by flooding. The new Bee Branch Healthy Homes program now aims to repair those flood-damaged homes and provide health services to residents.
A culture of engagement helped Dubuque, Iowa navigate tough economic times to create a stronger community.
