HEAL Cities Campaign: Creating Resolutions for Equity in Health
Across the country, municipal leaders are harnessing the power of local governments to create neighborhoods and workplaces where all residents and employees can be physically active and have access to healthy food. They are using their land use authority to retrofit neighborhoods with sidewalks and safe streets for walking and biking, parks and open space for recreation and community building, and fresh, affordable food for the table. This session will introduce the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Cities Campaign, a highly successful policy initiative advancing health equity through resolutions with policy goals for general plans, land use, healthy food access and worksite wellness. The session will share lessons learned from nearly ten years of collaboration between cities and their municipal leagues and provide examples of successes from leaders involved in making their communities healthier.
