Guest Blogging: Scott County

By Ryan Roberts

Time is flying here in Scott County, Kansas.  We have our first live All-America City presentation practice tomorrow night. The production is something that the whole community will be proud of and will show what we are all about here in Scott County. It is still hard to believe that the All-America City Finals are just two weeks away.

Memorial Day was a big day here in Scott County, Kansas. We had our annual salute to our soldiers who have died in military service. Every year the American Legion/VFW color guard and the Scott Community High School chapter of the National Honor Society do a great job of honoring those who have served our country.

The Park On The Plains has been a big hit this summer with the children of Scott County. In November 2009, the Scott community raised nearly $350,000 to build a brand new, fully-accessible park. As the weather has warmed up, this one of a kind park in Western Kansas allows all children no matter what their limitations are to play and interact with one another. The Park On The Plains was built by the people of Scott County who volunteered their time and energy to have the park completely built in one week.

We hope everyone is doing well and working hard on their presentations. One of the best parts about this process is people working together within the community towards a common goal and the support and encouragement of those who understand the significance of what it would mean for our community to be named an All-America City.

Hope to see you all soon and best wishes from Scott County, Kansas!
