Aurora, Colorado, a 2008 All-America City, recently hosted Global Fest, a large gathering of people of many races, nationalities and religions. With music, dancers and food from many different cultures, there were hundreds of people.
Two festival goers, when asked what they were interested in at the fair, said:
“brings people together and shows you a bit about other cultures, and opens your mind.”
Since 20% of the city’s population is foreign-born, this festival was an opportunity for residents to show their cultures. In the opinion of Mayor Bob LeGare:
“Aurora is a place of wonderful diversity, where immigrants, refugees, new citizens and lifelong residents live side by side. Global Fest is a way for the city to recognize and celebrate that diversity.”
