Now a Program of the National Civic League!

For eight years, Spread The Vote has built high-impact, nonpartisan civic programs serving Americans too often left behind by our democratic systems. Now, Spread the Vote and their initiatives will continue under the League’s umbrella, ensuring that they continue to grow at a moment when democracy work demands stability and long-term investment.

Flagship Initiatives

  • Vote by Mail in Jail expands ballot access to the over 470,000 incarcerated Americans at risk of disenfranchisement. Through partnerships in 152+ jails and detention facilities, supported by correctional officers, sheriffs, reentry specialists, and inmate services staff, the program has already assisted more than 1,000 eligible voters in the past year with registration, absentee ballot requests, and voter guides.
  • Read the F*ing Directions helps young voters—who are 5x more likely to have their mail-in ballots thrown out—get it right with state-specific eligibility info, key deadlines, and step-by-step ballot instructions.
  • Encyclopedia Politica is the first-ever interactive guide to every elected office in America. Being designed for voters, students, potential candidates, and everyday people who want to learn more about how government works, including clear explainers and concrete examples of elected officials making an impact in their communities.

Democracy only works when everyone can access it. But millions of Americans face barriers to basic civic participation, from obtaining identification to understanding how, when, and where to vote.

Spread The Vote bridges that gap.

Through direct support, voter education, and on-the-ground programs, we equip people with the tools they need to engage in civic life. Whether it’s helping someone secure the ID they need, providing trusted voter information, or increasing turnout among underserved communities, our work is rooted in one belief:

Participation should be possible for everyone.
