Carver students will lobby for Des Moines

…..The school is one of three community-driven projects the city will showcase during a three-day event in Kansas City, Mo., where the community delegations will tell their stories of successful change to a national jury of business, nonprofit, and local government experts.

Des Moines’ Western Gateway Park and Pappajohn Sculpture Park, and the Kiwanis Miracle League and Field, will also be represented.

The All-America City award is distributed each year by the National Civic League to 10 communities around the country that have exemplified outstanding civic accomplishments. Des Moines has won the award four times and came in as a finalist last year, said Kandi Reindl, assistant to the city manager.

“It’s an incredible experience to be a part of,” said Clara Hill, a Head Start teacher at Carver.

Carver was asked to participate because of its success as a community school, Reindl said….
