The Local Policy Lab accelerates the adoption of effective solutions to pressing problems at the local governmental level.

Local governments, and their policymakers, are well positioned to drive significant improvements in the lives of their constituents.  However, these city, county and tribal governments often lack the resources to access and implement innovative policy and programmatic approaches. Mayors, councilmembers, and other local policymakers are routinely overstretched and without key tools to enact measures that deliver real change.

The Local Policy Lab partners with local governments to help communities translate promising ideas into action and deliver real, measurable change. LPL provides individualized, strategic support to cities, generates innovative ideas and approaches, and curates a network of local policymakers as they craft effective solutions in their communities. Through its Action Tank, LPL spreads these solutions to communities across the country.

What we do: 

Empower local government leaders: LPL provides intensive technical assistance to select cities and helps local governments identify effective solutions to pressing issues by strengthening civic engagement through an in-depth discovery process and subsequent planning process. LPL Offerings

Support local governments: LPL develops content, including detailed case studies, hands-on toolkits, and unique materials designed for immediate application by local government. LPL Knowledge Hub

Build connections: LPL connects cities that are dedicated to protecting and strengthening democracy and improving non-partisan civic engagement. The LPL Network – which is open to any local government official that supports these goals – includes a diverse array of cities from across the country.  There is no cost to join the LPL Network.
