Public libraries are one of the cornerstone institutions of civic life. The are safe spaces for learning, sharing, connecting, convening and creating. Far from a collection of books or a simple building, libraries are hubs for information, dialogue and civic renewal.
Recognizing the incredibly central role that libraries have played and must continue to play in our communities, the Aspen Institute created a working group focused on a Dialogue on Public Libraries. Aspen produced a short video laying out the power and potential of libraries. It’s well worth the 2:45 and features quotes and insights from leading thinkers in the public library and civic worlds. National Civic League President and long-time champion of libraries, Gloria Rubio-Cortes is featured along with other key figures.
